Aline brings international, academic and business perspectives to the WISC AAC as a lead economist with the World Bank, where she currently focuses on topics of social assistance, social insurance, and labor markets in Latin America and the Caribbean. Aline holds a PhD in Economics from the European University Institute in Italy.
Aline Coudouel is a lead economist with the World Bank, where she currently focuses on topics of social assistance, social insurance, and labor markets in Latin America and the Caribbean, working mostly in Mexico, Colombia and the Dominican Republic. During her 13 years with the World Bank, Aline has worked mostly in the areas of social protection, gender, poverty, labor markets, service delivery, governance, monitoring, and the evaluation of programs and reforms’ impacts. Aline has worked in Latin America, Africa and Eastern and Central Europe and the former Soviet Union. She combines operational experience with knowledge management and analytical work. Prior to joining the Bank, she worked as a researcher for UNICEF, focusing on the welfare of children and women in Europe and Central Asia.
Aline is one of the contributors to “A User’s Guide to Poverty and Social Impact Analysis” (World Bank 2003). She is the co-editor (with Stefano Paternostro) of “Analyzing the Distributional Impact of Reforms”, volume one, on guidance for the poverty and social impact analysis in selected sectors (World Bank 2005), and co-editor (with Anis A. Dani and Stefano Paternostro) of “Poverty and Social Impact Analysis of Reforms: Lessons and Examples from Implementation” (World Bank 2006), a volume on operational experiences in implementing poverty and social impact analysis.
She was a co-author of the 2012 Flagship World Development Report on “Gender Equality and Development”, which described the evolution of gender equality across and within countries and sought to explain the driving force behind gender equality and its affect on economic growth and helped to enhance the understanding of the role of public action in promoting this important issue. Aline holds a PhD in Economics from the European University Institute in Italy.
