About the event

Stina Folkebrant paints with black and white acrylic inspired by Chinese ink painting where the black is blended with water to achieve a grayscale. Her exhibition at Edition ONE Gallery focuses on animals, rocks, and trees painted on old embroidered sheets - like imprints of dreams in black and white.

During the Canyon Road Spring Arts Festival, on May 12th & 13th, from 10am-3pm, Stina will be painting a large mural of a Swedish moose, called King of the Forest, in front of the gallery.  “The Swedish moose is called the king of the forest. I paint a glimpse of the depths of the forest, a clearing unseen by the human eye.” - Stina Folkebrant  From a distance, the paintings seem very realistic, but upon closer observation, the traces of her hands’ movements and the living lines become apparent. She most often paints on canvas measuring 3 x 4.50 meters but also uses old lace sheets and folding wooden screens. Stina paints murals both indoors and outdoors and has participated in several street art festivals. in the spring of 2021, Stina painted a mural measuring 3 x 55 meters depicting creatures from the Pacific Ocean in Sergels Torg in central Stockholm.

Stina´s motifs are animals and landscapes. Her vision is to create an encounter between the observer and the animals as well as highlight that humans are also animals among all other species. Stina’s recent work in the US includes a mural and exhibition, MYGRATION with Tomas Colbengtson at National Nordic Museum, Seattle. at National Nordic Museum in Seattle.

Stina Folkebrant was born and raised in Borås but now lives in Stockholm, with a studio in Gustavsbergs Harbour.

A special thanks to Pilar Law at Edition One Gallery for partnering in producing this event.
