A graduate of Smith College, who obtained her J.D. from the University of New Mexico and has been practicing law for over thirty years. She is a partner in the respected law firm of Sommer, Udall, Sutin in Santa Fe. Over the years, Janet contributed her talents and time to more than a dozen non-profits, community organizations and foundations, benefitting Santa Fe greatly. Janet McL. McKay is a Santa Fe attorney with three decades of professional and volunteer service to the community. For many years she had her own firm, and is now a partner in the Sommer Udall Sutin Law Firm. A graduate of Smith College, Janet pursued her J.D. degree at the University of New Mexico where she graduated magna cum laude in 1978. Her legal focus is on estate planning, real estate transactions and business and commercial transactions. She is admitted to practice law in the State of New Mexico, the State of Washington and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Tenth Circuit.

The respect in which Janet is held professionally is demonstrated by her election as President of the First Judicial District Bar Association and by her service as a State Bar Disciplinary Board Hearing Officer for more than fifteen years.

Santa Fe has been the beneficiary of Janet’s service with many cultural and educational institutions. These include the International Folk Art Museum, the School for Advanced Research, Santa Fe Preparatory School, and the Lensic Performing Arts Center as well as being a founder of the Women’s International Study Center. In other community service, Janet has devoted her time to the Santa Fe Economic Development Corporation, the Santa Fe Community Foundation, Buckaroo Ball, The Witter Bynner Foundation, The Elizabeth A. Sackler Foundation and the St. Vincent Hospital Internal Review Board.
